Ukraine is actively working to expand its forestry fund as part of a large-scale initiative called Green Country. This program envisages increasing the forest area by 38 thousand hectares. This is an ambitious step that aims not only to improve the environmental situation in the country, but also to facilitate adaptation to climate change.
Foresters are actively implementing the presidential program aimed at significantly expanding forest areas. Under this program, approved at the highest state level, it is planned to plant 238.3 million pieces of planting material in 2024. This step is an important contribution to ensuring the environmental safety of the country and its residents.
The planting will be carried out in accordance with modern environmental standards. An important goal is to create mixed forests that will be highly resistant to climate change and fire. This approach will not only reduce the risks of biodiversity decline, but also help to protect forests from natural disasters.
The priority areas for 2024 are also the preservation of existing forests, their expansion and creation of new plantations. Measures will be taken to digitalize processes in the forestry sector and combat illegal timber trafficking, which will ensure transparency and efficiency in forest management.
According to Viktor Smal, Head of the State Forestry Agency, the implementation of such programs helps to raise environmental awareness and creates a foundation for sustainable forestry development. It also opens up new economic opportunities for Ukraine's forestry sector by developing business activity in related industries.
Timber control is an important component of this strategy and will be strengthened in 2024. New tools and technologies will be introduced to monitor and regulate timber turnover, which will allow not only to preserve forest resources but also to use them properly with minimal environmental impact.
