Since the beginning of 2026, the demand for firewood in Ukraine has risen sharply: citizens and social institutions purchased nearly 1.1 million cubic meters of firewood. This is twice as much as in the same period last year, when sales volume stood at 534 thousand cubic meters.
The average monthly shipment of firewood reached about 225 thousand cubic meters — a level previously recorded only during the peak months of the heating season. With this pace, total consumption by the end of 2026 could exceed 3 million cubic meters, setting a record compared to 2.45 million cubic meters sold last year.
Despite the rapid growth in demand, there is currently no shortage of firewood. Approximately 200 thousand cubic meters of wood remain in stock, and the situation is under control at each of the 1,340 forestry units across the country. By the end of the year, another 2 million cubic meters are planned to be harvested to meet household needs.
The state enterprise assures that prices for firewood for the population will remain stable until the end of the 2026/2027 heating season — provided there is no sharp rise in fuel or logistics costs. The price per cubic meter depends on the wood species: hardwoods are sold at 1,400 UAH including VAT, pine and alder at 1,100 UAH, and spruce, fir, and soft-leaved species at 950 UAH.
In addition to supplying the population, the enterprise provides firewood to budgetary institutions and Ministry of Defense structures through tender procedures. Since the beginning of 2026, 813 contracts have been signed for a total supply of 247 thousand cubic meters, of which more than 130 thousand have already been delivered to customers.
At the same time, the government allocated 3 billion UAH from the reserve fund for the installation of 216 modular boiler units, including in Kyiv. This initiative aims to improve energy efficiency and ensure stable heat supply amid the ongoing war.
