The Polish retail giant Pepco plans to occupy in Ukraine the niche previously held by IKEA. The company's intentions were revealed by Pepco Chief Operating Officer for Central and Eastern Europe Marcin Stanko in an interview with LIGA.net.
Pepco Group officially announced its entry into the Ukrainian market in October 2026. Two Ukrainian cities are competing to host the first store. For the company, Ukraine will become its 20th European market.
Although its furniture range is smaller than IKEA's, Pepco also offers home goods and decor in the affordable price segment. This, according to the company's representative, provides grounds to claim the vacated niche.
“There are products similar to IKEA. And since IKEA has not yet returned to Ukraine, Pepco can well claim this niche,” said Marcin Stanko.
IKEA is currently postponing its return to Ukraine and has not yet set a timeline for deciding on resuming store operations.
Pepco considers all discounters on the market as its direct competitors — primarily the Polish chains LPP and Modivo. The company aims to outpace its competitors in Ukraine within the next few years.
“If our competitors have such big ambitions, we must have even bigger ones,” Stanko emphasized.
Thanks to its wide assortment — clothing, interior goods, and everyday products — Pepco can target not only the discounter niche but also a broader customer base.
Founded in 1999, the company now operates more than 4,000 stores in 18 countries and serves around 36 million customers each month. The brand competes in the discount segment alongside Sinsay, Aurora, CCC, and other operators. In 2025, Pepco Group's revenue grew by 8.7% to €4.5 billion, while net profit rose by 19.7% to €219 million.
