August shows remarkable surge in US wood pellet exports

Recent data unveiled by the United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Foreign Agricultural Service, coupled with an insightful analysis from Biomass Magazine (dated October 5, 2023), reveals a substantial surge in US wood pellet exports during the month of August. The figures soared to 1.01 million metric tons, marking a substantial increase from the 615,698.8 metric tons recorded in July and the 819,986.5 metric tons in August of the previous year.

In August, the United States successfully shipped wood pellets to almost 20 different nations. The United Kingdom secured the top spot as the leading recipient, importing a noteworthy 558,943.5 metric tons, followed by Denmark at 157,802.7 metric tons and Japan at 133,415.7 metric tons.

The total value of US wood pellet exports for the month of August was an impressive $183.07 million, surging from $112.86 million in July and $144.34 million in August 2022.

The overall tally for US wood pellet exports during the first eight months of 2023 reached an impressive 6.24 million metric tons, valued at $1.15 billion. This marks a significant increase compared to the 5.83 million metric tons exported during the corresponding period in 2022, valued at $1.0 billion.
