Ukrainian seedlings became interested abroad

27 Mar 2024

The state enterprise "Forests of Ukraine" has entered into an agreement for the supply of 110 thousand pine and spruce seedlings with a closed root system (ZKS) to Slovakia. The company's general director, Yuri Bolokhovets, announced this on Facebook, emphasizing the replacement of raw material exports with domestically produced products. Despite the European focus of the agreement, negotiations on the purchase of seedlings are ongoing with different clients.

The Lviv seed selection center of the State Enterprise "Forests of Ukraine" exported seedlings for the first time in 2022, receiving a positive response from European partners. Another significant contract was concluded in this regard in 2023. The General Director of the State Enterprise noted the advantages of seedlings from ZKS, in particular, the possibility of planting during the year, which simplifies the work of foresters and reduces the cost of growing forests by 35%.

Timber plants of the State Enterprise "Forests of Ukraine" are located in several regions of Ukraine, in particular, in Zhytomyr, Ternopil, Khmelnitsky, Lviv and Kirovograd. In 2024, a new center was launched in the Ivano-Frankivsk region. The company's goal is to achieve a production volume of 40 million seedlings per year from ZKS, most of which are intended for the domestic market, but export development is also planned.
