Ukrainian foresters learn from Latvian colleagues for sustainable development of the industry

Short: Ukrainian experts are studying Latvian approaches to forestry, including seed centers, to improve the efficiency and sustainability of the domestic industry.

Ukrainian foresters are actively learning from their Latvian counterparts in forestry, which contributes to the development of the industry in Ukraine. Latvia's experience in this area deserves special attention, as the country has had considerable success in developing forestry projects and seed production.

Organization of forestry in Latvia

The story about the organization of forestry in Latvia was presented on the Facebook page of the Polissia Forestry Office on July 20. This information aroused considerable interest among Ukrainian specialists, as the Latvian system is an example of effective and sustainable management. One of the key characteristics of the Latvian forestry is their seed centers, which operate both at the state forestry company and at private woodworking enterprises.

The State Forestry Company of Latvia has significant experience in the field of seed centers, including large-scale projects and innovative solutions. This allows Latvia to maintain a high level of planting material production and sustainable development of forest resources. In total, there are 10 nurseries and seed centers in Latvia that actively contribute to the expansion and conservation of forest areas. The total volume of cultivation is 61.4 million seedlings per year, which is a significant achievement and undoubtedly a useful experience for Ukrainian foresters.

Ukrainian experts see this as an example of efficiency and effectiveness that can be adapted and implemented within Ukraine. Cooperation with Latvian colleagues can help Ukrainian foresters improve their processes, increase productivity, and ensure the sustainable development of the industry as a whole.

The exchange of experience with EU countries opens up new prospects for Ukrainian forestry, while taking into account the current environmental challenges facing the sector. Implementing best practices in forest management can be the key to preserving and restoring Ukraine's unique fauna and flora.

Ukraine's interaction with successful countries in the field of forestry will not only contribute to the development of the national forestry industry, but will also help strengthen ties with foreign partners in the long term.
