The raw timber market at the Ukrainian Energy Exchange (UEEX) continues to demonstrate high efficiency and stable demand from participants. This demonstrates the growing importance of this segment for the country's economy. Despite the challenges, the market shows stable performance, which is a positive signal for both domestic and foreign investors.
In March 2025, 443.29 thousand cubic meters of unprocessed timber were sold at UEEX auctions for a total amount of UAH 1.53 billion, including value added tax (VAT). These figures are not only impressive, but also demonstrate how important such auctions are for the Ukrainian economy. Revenues from timber sales help ensure the sustainability of forestry and contribute to forest restoration and protection measures.
Round timber dominated the sales, with sales of 246.87 thousand cubic meters worth UAH 1.21 billion (including VAT). This indicates a high demand for this type of product, which is used in various industrial sectors, from construction to furniture production. Timber provides jobs for many specialists in Ukraine, supporting the domestic labor market.
Firewood also showed significant sales volumes - 196.42 thousand cubic meters worth UAH 325.19 million (including VAT). Demand for firewood is driven by its use as fuel, especially in rural areas where it is an important source of energy. Such wood is also an important component for the production of biofuels, which is increasingly being implemented in Ukraine as an environmentally friendly alternative to traditional energy sources.
The distribution of sales shares in the March auctions also underwent interesting changes: the share of roundwood was 56%, while firewood accounted for 44%. This distribution indicates an increased interest in high-quality raw materials, which is a steady trend in the industry.
Roundwood, given its larger share in sales, is an important element for investors and market participants. They represent a valuable resource that is used not only in Ukraine but also has export potential. Favorable terms of sale on the exchange can potentially attract large-scale investments and technological upgrades in the industry.
Firewood, although accounting for a smaller share of total sales, remains an important component for ensuring energy stability in the regions, especially in the context of the transition to more environmentally friendly energy sources. This is especially important in the context of Ukraine's international commitments to energy modernization and emission reduction.
Therefore, the raw wood market continues to be an important economic segment that not only generates revenue for the state, but also supports the continuity of forest ecosystems and promotes international partnership in the context of environmental safety and sustainable development.
