An ambitious and innovative project marked the completion of a remarkable infrastructure project in the picturesque resort town of Sângeorz-Băi in Bistrița-Năsăud county. A layered wooden bridge, unique in Romania, was recently put into operation, making a significant contribution to the urban landscape and local infrastructure. This project not only redefines the aesthetics of bridges in the country, but also introduces a number of benefits for the local community and visitors.
The new bridge crosses the river Someșul Mare and is considered a first in local construction due to its innovative design. The design of layered timber structures is rare in Romania, which makes this work all the more remarkable. The bridge is 54 meters long and 4.2 meters wide, with a sinuous shape reminiscent of the letter "S". This shape is not just an aesthetic detail, but also a manifestation of functionality and innovation in civil engineering.
Intended for pedestrians and cyclists, the bridge can also occasionally support vehicles weighing up to 3.5 tons. This flexibility in use makes it a vital element of Sângeorz-Băi's infrastructure, helping to smooth traffic flow and providing a sustainable alternative for residents and tourists. This work is clear proof of the commitment of the community and local authorities to the development and modernization of local infrastructure.
The construction of the bridge involved the use of approximately 240 cubic meters of Romanian wood, a material that provides not only strength and durability, but also an environmentally friendly appearance. Laminated wood, a material widely used in Western Europe for its qualities, is now attracting interest on the Romanian market with this innovative project. With an extended lifespan and increased resistance to environmental factors, laminated wood is proving to be an excellent choice for such constructions.
The work was carried out by MIS Grup from Bistrița-Năsăud, a company recognized for its large-scale projects in the region. This bridge is not only a material improvement for the city, but also a symbol of innovation and sustainability in modern construction. With this project, Sângeorz-Băi is not only consolidating its status as a resort town with modern infrastructure, but also affirming its commitment to protecting the environment and using local resources.
The Sângeorz-Băi bridge project demonstrates how innovation, technology and respect for the environment can work together to create sustainable and efficient solutions. Such an approach not only contributes to local development, but also inspires other communities to follow suit, redefining Romania's infrastructure landscape through sustainable development models.
