In the Carpathian Mountains, an investigation is underway into illegal deforestation, which has become an urgent threat to the ecosystem of this picturesque region. The Transcarpathian Prosecutor's Office opened a case in connection with the felling of ancient beech forests in a forestry near Shipot, where 114 illegally felled trees were found.
The destruction of these forests was triggered by the construction of a forest road leading to the Runa valley. This project was legitimized through a logging ticket issued earlier this year. However, back in 2019, scientists classified this area as a virgin forest, where any logging is strictly prohibited. Despite this, deforestation activities in this area were started anyway.
The problem of deforestation in the Carpathians has attracted the attention of both law enforcement agencies and representatives of the scientific community. Environmentalists insist on the importance of preserving the unique natural complexes of the Carpathians, the protection of which should be a priority. They emphasize that the destruction of virgin forests can have unpredictable environmental consequences that will affect not only nature but also the lives of local residents who depend on a healthy forest environment.
In the face of active deforestation in the Carpathian Mountains, environmentalists are sounding the alarm, calling for urgent action. In the Zakarpattia region, law enforcement officers have already launched an investigation into the illegal felling of trees in the virgin forest. This activity was carried out to build a forest road to the Runa meadow, for which they obtained permission by obtaining a logging ticket, which caused outrage among environmentalists and scientists.
Environmentalists are drawing the attention of the public and the government to the need to preserve valuable forest areas. They emphasize that such use of forest resources is unacceptable, especially in the context of the fight against global climate change. The loss of virgin forests can lead to catastrophic consequences for the region's biodiversity and reduce its ability to regulate climate conditions.
Coordinated actions by the authorities, including law enforcement agencies, as well as active public participation, are essential to protect and preserve the Carpathian forests. Environmentalists emphasize that only joint efforts can combat illegal activities and ensure sustainable management of the region's natural resources.
