Lithuania Plans a 200 Million Euro Investment in MDF Production

Short: Lithuania is planning a 200 million euro investment in a modern medium-density fiberboard (MDF) factory, which will strengthen local industry and create new jobs in the Marijampolė region.

In the Marijampolė district, in the village of Nendriniškiai, one of the most significant industrial investments in Lithuania in recent years is being planned. The national development institution ILTE has signed a 150 million euro investment loan agreement with FT Board, with the total project value reaching 200 million euros.

A medium-density fiberboard (MDF) factory will be built here, targeting the furniture and construction sectors as well as higher value-added products for international markets. The project's goal is to create one of the most modern MDF production complexes in the Baltic States.

The 150 million euro loan is the largest in ILTE's history and was granted under the „Billion for Business“ initiative, funded by the Economic Recovery and Resilience Facility. The project is being implemented by FT Board, operating as a joint project of Freda, UAB, and TMV Capital groups.

The funding will be allocated for the construction of the factory, infrastructure development, and the installation of modern production equipment. It is planned to create around 125 new jobs and provide a significant economic boost to the Marijampolė region. The choice of location is driven by favorable logistics – nearby railway infrastructure and the Via Baltica highway, which help optimize transportation costs.

The project is also linked to strengthening Lithuania's furniture industry. The new MDF production is expected to contribute to the development of a local raw material base and increase export competitiveness. The production process plans to utilize lower-quality wood and by-products of the wood industry, aiming for near-zero waste and greater resource efficiency.

The 200 million euro investment, record-breaking funding, modern technologies, and planned new jobs make this project strategically important for both the region and Lithuania's entire industrial sector.
