A factory in Romania has entered the Guinness Book of Records as the largest blockboard production unit in the world. With an impressive annual capacity and sprawling over several hectares, it produces thousands of cubic meters of panels delivered to over 40 countries. HS Baco Panels from Comănești, Bacău County, boasts the largest panel production in a single location, according to the World Record Academy.
The factory has been operating for 10 years under the umbrella of HS Timber Group and today covers 17 hectares, with four production sections, warehouses, and offices. The factory employs approximately 800 workers and produces 145,000 square meters of blockboard and formwork panels annually, delivered to over 40 countries.
It is the first factory of its kind in the world to achieve such a capacity in a single location, as emphasized by the World Record Academy. The products manufactured here, with a softwood core such as pine or poplar, covered with hardwood veneer or fiberboard, are widely used in the furniture industry, construction, and door manufacturing due to their strength, stability, and light weight. Continuous investments exceed 30 million euros, including modern equipment and new presses, keeping the factory at the forefront of global technology.
Over the past 10 years, investments in machinery and modern technologies have solidified its position at the top worldwide. HS Timber Group, owned by Evergreen Privatstiftung, a private foundation from Austria, is one of the leading European players in wood processing, with over 2,700 employees across seven global production units.
The group entered the Romanian market in 1999, and in 2004, it acquired the factory in Sebeș from Gruppo Frati in a 250-million-euro transaction. In Romania, the company also operates units in Rădăuți and Reci (sawmills), while HS Baco Panels stands as a symbol of local success in the wood industry. The factory was taken over in 2010 from Finnforest and has been continuously modernized, expanding its capacity and production spaces.
Beyond its industrial performance, HS Baco Panels is also the largest private employer in the Trotuș Valley, significantly contributing to the local economy and enhancing Romania's image as an industrial hub with international standards.
