Galiforest Abanca brings together around 9,200 forestry sector professionals

Short: Galiforest Abanca closed its eighth edition in Boqueixón with around 9,200 visitors from 18 countries, consolidating itself as Spain’s largest forestry fair. The extreme heat on Saturday, with a red alert in 158 Galician municipalities, affected the final attendance.

The eighth edition of Galiforest Abanca closed its doors in Sergude, Boqueixón, with around 9,200 visitors linked to the forestry sector, thus consolidating its position as Spain’s largest forestry fair and strengthening its growing international projection.

The event attracted professionals from across Spain and recorded a notable increase in foreign attendance, with accredited visitors from 18 countries. International participation was led by Portugal, although professionals from France, Italy, Andorra, and other European and Latin American countries also stood out.

Total attendance was close to that of the previous edition, though it did not surpass it. The main limiting factor was the extreme heat that hit Galicia on Saturday, when a red alert for high temperatures affected 158 Galician municipalities, including Boqueixón. Nevertheless, Thursday and Sunday exceeded the figures for those same days in the previous edition by more than 400 visitors.

Records in exhibition and internationalization

The exhibition area brought together products, services, and proposals from 387 companies from 31 countries, represented by 125 direct exhibitors from 8 countries. 11.2% of the companies and entities with a direct presence were international, originating from countries such as Portugal, Italy, Brazil, Latvia, the Czech Republic, Romania, and the Netherlands.

This edition was the largest Galiforest to date in terms of participating companies, direct exhibitors, exhibition space, and internationalization—results that reinforce the fair’s strategic role in the European forestry landscape. Galicia, considered the ninth forestry power on the continent and Spain’s national leader in the sector, finds in this event a showcase in line with its economic and productive weight.

Holding the event in a forest setting, outside the Feira Internacional de Galicia Abanca, responds precisely to the need for a real working forest environment that allows authentic machinery demonstrations to be combined with good access, communication, and infrastructure. Exhibitors expressed high satisfaction both with the professional profile of the visitors and with the business contacts generated, and particularly valued the increased attendance of foreign visitors to their stands.

Program, demonstrations and innovation

Galiforest’s program stood out for its dynamism and the density of its technical offering. Over three days, 200 demonstrations of forestry machinery, systems, and processes were held, carried out both in designated forest areas and in each exhibitor’s own plots. The fair also featured chainsaw sculpture shows, professional chainsaw tests, and demonstrations of wood sports, alongside educational exhibitions on life in the beehive and ecospheres, and practical workshops such as one dedicated to grafting techniques.

The commitment to research, development, and innovation was channeled through the Technological Innovation Competition, whose first prize went to a robotic, intelligent, and connected forestry crane—a development that illustrates the technological transformation the sector is undergoing.

The II Iberian Silviculture Symposium brought together experts from four countries during the first two days of the fair and attracted nearly one hundred registered participants, underscoring the academic and scientific dimension that Galiforest has incorporated into its offering over successive editions.
