A large-scale operation to enforce the Forest Law was carried out in the Shumen region, during which 13 carts loaded with illegally cut timber were confiscated. In addition, authorities seized one vehicle and three chainsaws used in the illegal activity.
The seizure involved a significant quantity of 20 cubic metres of wood, which testifies to the seriousness of the offence. In addition, 94 kilograms of non-timber forest products were found, which also fall under the regulations of the Forestry Act.
Those responsible for these violations face consequences under the law. A total of 47 infringement notices have been issued to them, underlining the efforts of the authorities to tackle the problem of illegal logging in the region.
The action in the Shumen region is part of the wider strategy of the North-Eastern State Enterprise (NESE) to control and prevent illegal activities in forests. During the month of February, SIDP carried out more than 2,200 inspections, showing a significant commitment to compliance with laws related to forest and biodiversity conservation.
The inspections cover not only compliance with the Forest Act, but also the Hunting and Game Conservation Act, which is essential for maintaining the ecological balance and protecting wildlife. The violations observed are varied, but the seizure of such a large quantity of illegally felled timber highlights the urgent need for action and strengthening of control measures.
Such operations are vital not only to prevent damage to forests, but also to preserve natural resources for future generations. At the same time, they serve as a warning signal to violators that illegal logging will not go unpunished and that the authorities will continue to monitor and punish any deviations from the law.
With public support and increased vigilance of the monitoring technologies used, the region can address the challenges associated with illegal forest exploitation. At the same time, there is also a need for greater awareness and participation by local communities in the protection of forest wealth.
