Ukraine Develops the Largest Center for Seedling Export to Europe

Short: Ukraine is developing forest propagation centers to enhance the quality of afforestation and export potential, focusing on innovative technologies.

Ukraine is taking significant steps to improve the efficiency of its afforestation efforts through the development of forest propagation centers. This initiative aims to substantially increase the production of seedlings with closed root systems, a key factor in enhancing the quality of forestry activities and boosting the country’s export potential.

The State Agency of Forest Resources, under the leadership of Viktor Smal, is actively working on expanding the network of these centers, which specialize in the production of such seedlings. According to Mr. Smal, the need for a new approach to growing high-quality planting material is a priority task for improving Ukraine’s forestry performance. Currently, seven such centers are already operational in the country, ensuring the production of seedlings that can contribute not only to domestic development but also significantly impact exports.

Viktor Smal emphasizes that the development of these centers is strategically important for the restoration of national forests and the support of the economy by increasing export potential to €75 million. This is achievable through investments in modern technologies and scaling up production to 30 million seedlings per year. A strong focus is placed on seedlings with closed root systems, which are more resistant to external conditions and have better chances of successful establishment.

This innovative approach will not only meet domestic needs for planting material but also significantly increase the share of Ukrainian forest products on international markets. Ukraine has all the prerequisites to become a key player in the global forestry arena, opening up new economic opportunities for the country and contributing to the preservation and growth of natural resources.

Thanks to state investments in the development of forest propagation centers, Ukraine aims not only to contribute to global forest conservation but also to gain economic benefits from exporting high-quality seedlings. This strategy is an important step toward improving environmental stability and economic prosperity in the country.
