On November 13, Multiplix handed the keys to Premier Chris Minns, signifying the completion of one of Sydney’s most ambitious construction projects in decades.

The new markets are set to open on January 19, 2026, just in time for major events like the Australia Day long weekend and Lunar New Year. Officials project that the market will attract around six million visitors per year, making it a major destination for both locals and tourists.

Premier Chris Minns said, “Today’s milestone is an opportunity to reflect on all the hard work that has gone into completing this magnificent building on Sydney’s harbour foreshore.”

The building has been dubbed “engineering on steroids” due to its massive and innovative timber hybrid roof, which has drawn attention from engineers and architects around the world. Its design not only pushes the limits of modern construction but also aims to become a landmark of Sydney’s waterfront.

Sydney Fish Market Pty Ltd will now assume custodianship of the building, preparing it for its public opening in January. The project is expected to add a significant new attraction to Sydney’s iconic landmarks and enhance the city’s reputation for world-class architecture.
