The Romanian government has taken a decisive step towards controlling energy prices in the country by introducing a price ceiling of 400 lei per cubic meter for firewood. This new decision was announced by Environment Minister Tanjos Barna and quoted by the Bulgarian Telegraphic Agency (BTA).
The introduction of this price cap aims to ensure stability in the firewood market and to protect end users from excessive price increases, especially in the context of rising energy costs in Europe. The new provisions will enter into force ten days after their publication in the State Gazette, giving economic operators the necessary time to comply with the new requirements.
The restriction is designed to apply to all traders and economic agencies offering firewood on the Romanian market. It is specifically targeted at end-users who often face difficulties in obtaining fuel at affordable prices. By setting the ceiling price, the government aims not only to strengthen households' economic security, but also to prevent speculation from affecting Trojans' pockets.
Along with the establishment of a price ceiling, appropriate penalties will also be imposed on economic operators who do not comply with the law and sell firewood at higher than permitted prices. These penalties will serve as an additional regulatory tool to ensure compliance with the new legal requirements and will prevent attempts to manipulate the market.
The decision comes at a critical time when many Romanian households rely on firewood as a primary or supplementary source of heat, and illustrates the government's desire to promote the best possible living conditions for its citizens. In this sense, the measure is seen as a step forward towards social protection and economic sustainability. The effectiveness of this policy will be put to the test in the coming winter season. Citizens and economic operators will have the opportunity to express their views and make adjustments to developments.
