Demand for Timber in Ukraine Reaches Record Highs Due to Rising Prices

Short: The increase in demand for timber on the Ukrainian market is accompanied by rising prices, potentially leading to a shortage of forest materials.

The demand for timber on the Ukrainian market is showing impressive growth. According to the State Enterprise "Forests of Ukraine," 99% of the offered volume of round timber and firewood has already been contracted. This indicates that almost all available resources have been allocated among buyers, leaving little room for a potential increase in supply.

This situation is largely explained by the dynamic rise in prices. Specifically, the average price of round timber has reached a new peak of 6.8 thousand UAH per m³, significantly higher than in previous quarters: 5.7 thousand UAH/m³ in the third quarter and 5.4 thousand UAH/m³ in the second quarter. Firewood prices have also seen an increase, now costing 2.3 thousand UAH/m³.

The rise in timber prices can be attributed to several factors. Firstly, there has been an increase in demand from industrial enterprises that use forest materials for production. Secondly, the relevance of forest products has grown against the backdrop of global economic changes, which have disrupted supply chains for other raw materials.

Average prices for round timber and industrial firewood also reflect this trend. Such price increases could lead to a reduction in timber stocks not only in Ukraine but also on the international market if these trends persist.

According to information published by Delo.ua, citing the press service of the State Enterprise "Forests of Ukraine," the trading process and contract agreements for the fourth quarter have once again confirmed the consistent interest of buyers and the potential shortage of forest materials in the future.
