Pamplona Hosts the 6th International Forum on Timber Construction Amid Spain's Housing Crisis

Short: The Baluarte Congress Palace in Pamplona will host the 6th International Forum on Timber Construction on June 3 and 4, bringing together European developers, architects, and construction companies to present technical solutions in industrialized wood construction.

The Baluarte Congress Palace in Pamplona will host the 6th International Forum on Timber Construction on June 3 and 4, an event that aims to become a benchmark for a sector in full swing. The gathering will bring together developers, architecture studios, engineering firms, construction companies, and European manufacturers with the shared goal of presenting technical solutions that have already been tested and applied in real projects.

The Forum arrives at a time of intense pressure in the Spanish residential market. With an estimated demand of around 200,000 new homes per year and fewer than 110,000 dwellings expected to be completed this year, the gap between need and production continues to widen. In this context, industrialized wood construction emerges as an alternative capable of shortening delivery times, reducing costs, and contributing to the decarbonization of the sector. Projections suggest this construction method could reach 3% of new builds in Spain by 2026, up from the current 0.5–1.5%. A sign of the market’s growing maturity is the expansion of cross-laminated timber (CLT) production capacity, which has nearly doubled to 161,800 cubic meters per year.

A Meeting Space Between Demand and Solution

Beyond theoretical discussion, the Forum is conceived as a space for direct contact where professionals can resolve technical questions in real time and explore opportunities for collaboration and business. The event combines a specialized technical program with an exhibition area focused on systems and products specific to wood construction, ranging from airtightness and structural fixings to fire protection, insulation, machining, and large-scale prefabrication.

“This is not just a congress: it is the place where those who want to use wood to build competitively meet those who already have the technical and production solutions.” — Ibán Carpintero, organizer of the Forum

Under the slogan Connecting professionals who anticipate the future, the program is structured around five thematic blocks. The first, titled “Wood: the material of the 21st century,” will address the application of artificial intelligence in the AECO sector, large-scale logistics structures, and the new Environmental Sustainability Document of the 2026 CTE. The “New horizons” block will present reference projects such as a senior residence in Lloret de Mar, the Wood Clay Campus in Berlin, and a Passivhaus kindergarten in Parque Venecia.

The “Design and build” day will delve into technical aspects such as acoustics, moisture management in hybrid systems, and construction details from projects including the Abegondo Health Center and A Baiuca School. The “Wood and the sustainable city” block will focus on competitive collective housing, circular construction, and the HSP Sant Joan de Déu Precision Medicine Center. The program will close with the “Innovation and development” block, which will explore digital fabrication, robotics, and the growth limits of wood construction.

Technical visit to Madergia, in Aoiz

The Forum will begin with a technical visit to the facilities of Madergia, a Navarrese company with more than two decades of experience and nearly 1,800 completed projects, located in Aoiz. The activity will allow attendees to observe firsthand the production processes that underpin much of the debate to be held in the following sessions, moving the discussion from the conference hall to the factory environment where solutions take concrete form.
