STIHL Celebrates 100th Anniversary

Short: STIHL marks its 100th anniversary with a focus on both battery and gasoline technology, new anniversary products, and initiatives like synthetic fuel. The milestone will be celebrated globally, with a highlight at the TIMBERSPORTS event in Stuttgart in October 2026.

What began in a small workshop in Stuttgart in 1926 has today grown into a global market leader in both battery- and gasoline-powered products. As it approaches its 100th anniversary, STIHL uses its history not just as a look back, but as a springboard to highlight a strategy that combines tradition, engineering, and innovation – continuing toward 2026 with new products and global celebrations.

Reaching a 100-year milestone requires more than respect for traditions. According to STIHL, the anniversary is proof of the company’s ability to continuously evolve without compromising on quality and technical expertise. The brand’s slogan,

“Built for Nature. Trusted since 1926”,

underscores the ambition to make working in and with nature easier for both professionals and private users.

Parallel Strategy: Battery and Gasoline

Instead of choosing a single technological direction, STIHL develops battery and gasoline products side by side. In the battery sector, the goal is to achieve a leading global position, and sales trends support this strategy: today, every fourth product sold is battery-powered, and in markets like Germany and Switzerland, battery products already account for over 60 percent of sales.

At the same time, the company maintains that gasoline continues to play a central role. STIHL has been the world’s best-selling chainsaw brand since 1971, and the ambition is for quality to remain independent of the energy source.

Anniversary Products and Reduced Carbon Footprint

The anniversary is accompanied by new product launches that illustrate the dual focus. In the gasoline sector, STIHL highlights, among other things, the synthetic, biogenic fuel STIHL MotoMix 100, which can help reduce CO₂ emissions from combustion engines.

A special anniversary product is the MS 500i Centennial Edition – a limited edition based on the MS 500i, the world’s first mass-produced gasoline-powered chainsaw with electronic fuel injection. The black anniversary model serves as a tribute to the company’s technical heritage and innovative strength.

Global Commemoration Leading Up to 2026

STIHL is marking its 100th anniversary globally, with one of the largest public highlights being the STIHL TIMBERSPORTS® World Championships in Stuttgart in October 2026 – on home turf. Additionally, anniversary campaigns, products, and customer offers will be launched on stihl.dk, along with a dedicated anniversary website featuring historical material, including stories that, according to the company, are being published for the first time.

Overall, STIHL uses the anniversary to signal both continuity and renewal: a long-term investment in both battery and gasoline, new products as tangible proof of the strategy, and a global celebration culminating in 2026.
