On August 14, NUBiP of Ukraine held an All-Ukrainian round table on the topic "The state of forestry in Ukraine and the need for its adaptation to EU directives taking into account modern requirements." The initiators of the event were the National Institute of Forestry and Horticulture NUBiP of Ukraine and the Society of Foresters of Ukraine.
People's deputies of Ukraine, representatives of the State Agency of Forest Resources of Ukraine and their departments, SE "Forests of Ukraine", heads of interregional departments and branches, scientists, representatives of environmental organizations and the State Production and Consumer Service.
The rector of the university, Professor Vadym Tkachuk, made a welcome speech, emphasizing the importance of the discussed topics and the role of scientists in the development of legislative initiatives in the field of forestry.
Chairman of the Committee of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on Environmental Policy and Nature Management Oleg Bondarenko emphasized the need to adapt the forest legislation of Ukraine to European practices and the importance of developing a new edition of the Forest Code.
Yuriy Bolokhovets, General Director of the State Enterprise "Forests of Ukraine" ", noted that the transition to natural forestry is the foundation of the new forestry policy. This includes the abandonment of continuous felling in favor of complex, discontinuous felling and the formation of mixed stands of different ages, which increases the sustainability of forests. This approach complies with EU directives and contributes to the sustainable development of forestry.
Director of the Institute of Forestry and Horticulture Roman Vasylyshyn emphasized the institute's role in choosing important topics for discussion at the round table.
Aleksandr Matusevych, People's Deputy of Ukraine, drew attention to the need to implement European standards in forestry, especially in the Carpathian region. He also noted the experience of the NPP institute in the preparation of legislative initiatives.
Ihor Budzinskyi, head of the Department of Forestry and Forest Regeneration of the DALRU, emphasized the need to reform the forest legislation of Ukraine in accordance with European standards. This includes more effective forest management, biodiversity conservation and combating deforestation. One of the main principles is sustainable development, which involves meeting the needs of the current generation without harming the opportunities of future ones.
Olexandr Soshenskyi, associate professor of the Department of Forestry of the NUBiP of Ukraine, spoke about the main approaches of close-to-nature forestry (NPL) in the EU and prospects of their implementation in Ukraine. He emphasized the importance of scientific research, which will become the basis for regulatory documents and recommendations.
Tetyana Tymochko, head of the All-Ukrainian Environmental League, emphasized the importance of ecological approaches in forestry management, preservation of nature reserves, especially in climate-vulnerable ones regions of Ukraine.
Natalia Puzrina, head of the Department of Forestry of the Ukrainian National University of Science and Technology, drew attention to the problem of the reproduction of invasive species that violate natural barriers and lead to ecosystem mutations. She emphasized the importance of monitoring and developing biological methods of fighting invasions.
Viktor Chervyn, president of the All-Ukrainian Association of Hunters, spoke about the challenges of the hunting industry in Ukraine, stressing the importance of state support, combating poaching and increasing the professional training of specialists.
Serhiy Fedorenko, chief forester of the Teteriv Forestry Branch , and Myroslav Zvarych, forestry engineer of the Carpathian Forestry Office, presented the experience of implementing methods of forestry close to nature in the Polish and Carpathian regions.
Based on the results of the discussion, a decision was made, which will be sent to the interested central executive authorities.
