Forest Owners Sold Record Volumes of Timber in 2025

Short: Forest owners sold 13.47 million cubic meters of industrial timber in 2025, 960,000 more than the record in 2024. The first-hand value exceeded 11 billion kroner, up 38 percent. The Norwegian Agriculture Agency points to high demand and prices, though prices are now falling.

Forest owners sold 13.47 million cubic meters of timber for industrial purposes in 2025, making the year yet another record-breaking year for logging in Norway. The volume was 960,000 cubic meters higher than in the record year of 2024. At the same time, the first-hand value for forest owners surpassed 11 billion kroner, an increase of 3 billion kroner, equivalent to a 38 percent rise from the previous year.

Logging remained at a historically high level throughout the year. According to the Norwegian Agriculture Agency, strong demand and high prices were the main reasons for the record-high activity in the forests.

Prices for both sawlogs and pulpwood increased leading up to the summer of 2025. For spruce, sawlogs reached a price peak in August at 1,090 kroner per cubic meter, while pulpwood spruce peaked in May at 648 kroner per cubic meter. These price levels contributed to the significant value growth for forest owners.

Towards the end of the year, however, the price situation began to change. The Norwegian Agriculture Agency notes that parts of the forest industry no longer have the financial capacity to purchase timber at the high prices that have characterized the market recently.

The figures are based on statistics from the Norwegian Agriculture Agency for all industrial timber. Overall, 2025 delivered record volumes and strong income growth for forest owners, but the start of the next period is marked by more uncertain price prospects.
