Large-scale forestry reform in Ukraine supported by cooperation with Germany for environmental restoration

Short: Ukraine is launching a forestry reform focused on governance, combating illegal logging, and cooperation with Germany for environmental purposes.

Ukraine has launched a large-scale forestry reform, which is rapidly gaining momentum. The main objectives of this reform are to improve governance and efficiency in the sector, combat illegal logging, and promote the timber market. Given that Ukraine's forests cover more than 10 million hectares, this reform is not only a key to economic growth, but also an important step towards environmental protection.

Impact of military operations on forests and cooperation with Germany

The ongoing military operations on the territory of Ukraine have negative consequences not only for agricultural land but also for its forests. One of the important topics being discussed in the context of forestry reform is the restoration of war-damaged forests and the creation of new forest plantations that meet high environmental standards.

International cooperation, in particular with Germany, plays an important role in this regard. A recent meeting between Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection of Ukraine Serhiy Vlasenko and Counselor of the German Embassy Ansgar Aschfalk emphasized the need to coordinate efforts in the forestry sector. The discussion resulted in an agreement to implement joint Ukrainian-German projects aimed at raising the standards of Ukrainian forestry in line with European norms.

The main areas of cooperation are improving management practices, introducing modern technologies, and protecting the environment. These are the steps that both parties believe will help not only preserve but also increase Ukraine's natural resources.

Such cooperation is aimed not only at the economic development of the forestry sector, but also at specific environmental goals, including support for ecosystems and biodiversity conservation. The European partners are ready to support Ukraine in training and implementation of new technologies, as well as in the fight against illegal logging, which remains a problem in many regions.

Germany's support in this matter once again emphasizes the importance of international partnership and a joint approach to solving the problems faced by Ukraine. It sends a strong signal to all those working in the forestry sector that high professional standards are required and that the future of natural resources is at stake.
