In September 2025, wood pellets continue to be the most affordable form of heating energy. The price for one ton is only 313 euros, making them up to 89% cheaper than natural gas. This cost factor plays a crucial role in household budgets, especially during times of increasing inflationary pressure. Despite a seasonal price increase of 2.6%, pellets remain one of the most economical solutions for heating living spaces.
In contrast to oil and gas, which are often subject to extreme price fluctuations, pellet prices are characterized by long-term stability. The current price is 5% below the Consumer Price Index (CPI). This stability provides consumers with a reliable basis for budget planning and protects them from the unpredictable fluctuations of fossil fuel prices. For example, heating oil "extra light" costs 64% more, and natural gas even 89% more compared to pellets. This difference is an encouraging sign for those opting for a more environmentally friendly heating alternative.
Since 2021, pellets have seen a持续 boom in Austria. Over 60,000 households have replaced their old systems with modern pellet heating systems. This switch reflects not only the environmental awareness of the population but also the search for economically advantageous heating options.
