Black Red White Group acquired by Austrian XXXLutz Group changing the face of the Polish furniture market

Short: The Austrians fully own BRW after 30 years of Polish tradition; the deal offers new opportunities for growth, although it evokes sentiment of local success.

The Black Red White (BRW) Group, one of Poland's most recognizable furniture manufacturers, has been fully acquired by Austria's XXXLutz Group. This transaction is the result of a long-standing process that allows the Austrians to gain full control of the company. Previously, for nearly three decades, BRW remained one of the leading Polish companies with family capital, founded by Tadeusz Chmiel.

Historic ownership change at BRW

Starting in 2022, the XXXLutz Group gradually strengthened its relationship with BRW, initially acquiring a 50% stake. This was an important change in the Polish furniture market, as BRW became partly Austrian. However, as it soon turned out, this was just the beginning of the transformation. XXXLutz decided to go one step further and has now become the sole owner of the company, acquiring the rest of the shares.

At the time of the initial investment in 2022, managers with chairman Dariusz Formela also joined the company's structure, with the aim of strengthening strategic operations at the operational level. The XXXLutz Group's acquisition of full control is still subject to the approval of the relevant antitrust authorities, which is a standard requirement for such transactions.

The transaction will certainly affect the furniture market in Poland and BRW's position in the global context, especially since the XXXLutz Group is among the world's leading furniture manufacturers. Its global reach and market importance create new opportunities for BRW to grow and expand.

For many customers and market observers, the prospect of ending a certain chapter in the history of Polish entrepreneurship is emotional. BRW, a symbol of the success of the local furniture industry, is now becoming part of an international giant. However, this is also an opportunity to introduce the Polish brand to new markets and attract new customers through international support.

BRW's story is also a lesson on the dynamics of international transactions and the irreversible changes that globalization brings. Despite the acquisition by a foreign company, there is hope that the Chmiel brothers' indigenous heritage, with their strong work ethos and entrepreneurial spirit, will remain an integral part of the Black Red White brand identity.
