The construction of one of the largest wooden logistics complexes in Europe started with a solemn foundation laying ceremony in the port of Straubing Sand. Garbe Industrial Real Estate GmbH together with Logicenters is developing this large-scale project. Completion of the construction of the logistics hall with an area of 27,000 m² is planned for the third quarter of 2025. The total amount of investments is about 31 million euros. The complex will be located on a site of 47,000 m² and will include 24,500 m² of halls, 1,500 m² of mezzanine for storage and 1,100 m² of office space. To ensure efficient cargo flow, the hall will be equipped with 24 dock loaders and nine closed sectional gates. There are also parking spaces for 70 cars, 12 trucks and 30 bicycles.

Spruce and Douglas fir will be used for construction. 4,400 m³ of wood will be supplied from sustainable forestry in Bavaria and Austria. "This project is our flagship," says Adrian Zellner of Garbe Industrial Real Estate. — "We are building a logistics facility with a purely wooden structure for the first time." The company aims to set new environmental standards, expecting a 66% reduction in CO₂ emissions compared to traditional reinforced concrete.

The tenant of the property, the Straubing Port Association, praised the choice of wooden construction, which contributed to the award of the premium property. "Garbe has shown its commitment to sustainable construction, which was a decisive factor in the choice," says Andreas Leffert, managing director of the Straubing Sand Port Association.

The project also includes a landscaping concept with a natural transition between the biotope and the outside area, as well as a 2,000 m² green roof. A photovoltaic system on an area of 16,500 m² will ensure the production of renewable energy. The building will be equipped with LED lighting and an environmentally friendly heat pump. Used materials can be reused at the final stage.

The logistics hall has excellent transport connections: it is located next to the B 20, B 8, A 3 and A 92 motorways, as well as convenient access to public transport and the new Straubing-Hafen train station. Garbe is already negotiating with potential tenants who are interested in using the facility for cargo storage and transshipment.
