According to the Natural Resources Institute (Luke), the export value of Finnish forest products reached €0.95 billion in September 2023. This figure decreased by 19% year on year. The volume of wood imports amounted to 0.26 million m³.
In September, Finland imported 45% of wood from Estonia, 29% from Latvia and 17% from Sweden. For January-September 2023, pulpwood accounted for 59% of the total volume of imported wood, wood chips - 24%, fuel wood - 10%, by-products - 5%, logs - 2%.
The total export value of Finnish forest products fell to €9.07 billion in January-September 2023, down 14% from the same period the previous year.
In September, the price of exported sawn timber was 206 euros per m³, which is 31% lower than the average price of the previous year. The cost of plywood increased to 873 euros per m³, which is 19% higher than the average for the previous year.
The bleached kraft pulp export price in September was down 26% on the previous year's average at €538 per tonne.
The price of high-quality paper was 1,113 euros per ton (-4%), cardboard – 960 euros per ton (unchanged). The cost of magazine paper decreased by 2% compared to the previous year's average to €813 per tonne.
