According to data from the German Pellet Institute (DEPI), wood pellet prices fell for the third month in a row in September in Germany. On average, one ton of pellets costs 382.44 euros, which means a decrease of 5.2%, compared to the values in August.
DEPI claims that pellet prices have halved compared to last year. It is estimated that this extraordinary price dynamics can be explained by the situation of the energy crisis last year.
In addition, DEPI calculated that the price of one kilowatt-hour of heat from pellets is 7.65 euro cents, which implies a price advantage of 34% compared to fuel oil and about 28% compared to natural gas.
In September 2023, the regional differences in pellet prices in Germany are as follows for a purchase of 6 tons: in central Germany, the average price of pellets is €380.29 per ton, followed by southern Germany with €382.34 per ton a ton In the north and east of Germany, pellets will be slightly more expensive, with a price of 383.84 euros per ton.
When buying larger volumes of pellets (26 tons) in September 2023, the following price conditions apply: southern Germany - 369.29 euros per ton, center - 362.12 euros per ton, north and east - 361.49 euros per ton (all prices include VAT).
