Forest fires engulfed the city of Gelendzhik in the Krasnodar region of the Russian Federation. Mayor Oleksiy Bogodistov reported on Telegram on August 30 that 441 people, more than 80 pieces of equipment, as well as firefighting planes and helicopters were involved in fighting the fires, which currently cover 118 hectares.
Extinguishing fires is complicated by strong winds and terrain. There is no information about the victims.
The fires started the previous evening near the safari park where lions, tigers and bears are kept. According to a park employee, the fire and smoke have not yet reached the animals.
Gelendzhik is one of the most popular resorts in Russia on the Black Sea coast.
