Koskisen, a wood products company, is investing in a new thin plywood press for its production unit located in Hirvensalmi, Finland. The new press will increase the pressing capacity of thin plywood by around 25%, which will also improve the product offering and quality.
The new press will not only boost production productivity but also improve energy efficiency in Koskisen's facilities. The investment will allow Koskinen to rationalize its entire production process and its various work phases. Thus, the new press will help in increasing the use of renewable energy.
The installation of the new press is currently ongoing and should be operational by September. Several small investments, including a new steam pipe from the biopower plant and an increase in heat pumps, have been made to improve energy efficiency and reduce electrical energy consumption.
These measures will save between 25% and 50% of the electrical energy purchased, depending on the time. Electricity will be necessary only for operating machinery, lighting, and housekeeping services.
The thin plywood production unit in Hirvensalmi produces high-quality thin plywood and birch veneer.
